Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
To remain eligible for financial aid, you must make satisfactory academic progress. SAP requirements apply to all coursework, including transferred credits, even if you did not receive financial aid at any point. The general requirements are:
- Minimum GPA:
- 2.0 or higher for undergraduate students.
- 2.5 for certain programs, like pharmacy.
- 3.0 or higher for graduate students.
- Completion rate: pass 67% or more of all attempted credits.
- Maximum timeframe: you must be on track to complete your program without attempting more than 150% of the total hours on your degree plan.
- For example, if your program requires 120 credits, you must be able to graduate without exceeding 180 attempted credits (150% of 120 is 180).
We review your SAP status at the end of each semester, after final grades are posted, and we will notify you if you lose or are at risk of losing your eligibility for financial aid. You can see your SAP status in the student portal, Goldmine. Here is a description of each possible status:
Eligible for Aid |
You are meeting all SAP requirements and can receive financial aid. You should continue to do well in your classes to make sure you remain eligible for financial aid. |
Warning Semester |
You failed to meet either the GPA and/or completion rate SAP requirements. You continue to be eligible for financial aid for one semester, but must return to good standing by the end of the warning semester to avoid losing your financial aid eligibility in the future. |
Not Eligible for Aid |
You failed to meet either the GPA and/or completion rate SAP requirements after a warning semester, and, unfortunately, you are no longer eligible for financial aid at this time. However, if you have an extenuating circumstance, you may appeal. Complete a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Form, and upload it along with required documentation to , no later than the beginning of finals week to determine your eligibility for the next term. Note: You can also regain your financial aid eligibility by continuing to attend classes without using financial aid until you meet SAP requirements again. |
Terminated |
Regrettably, you are no longer meeting SAP because you have exceeded or will exceed the maximum number of credits to complete your degree or you have exhausted the maximum number of appeals allowed. In order to continue to fund your education, you may look for alternative sources of funding. |
Probation/Appeal Approved |
Your SAP appeal has been approved and your financial aid eligibility has been reinstated, however, you must consistently meet the conditions of your academic plan to continue to receive financial aid. |
Appeal Denied |
Your SAP appeal has been denied and you are not eligible for financial aid this semester. Note: You can also regain your financial aid eligibility by continuing to attend classes without using financial aid until you meet SAP requirements again. |
