Ms. Elvira Carrizal-Dukes
Lecturer
Elvira Carrizal-Dukes earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in film directing with honors from Columbia University in New York City where she was a FOCUS (Filmmakers of Color United in Spirit) Fellow. Her short thesis film “Mariposa” is a winner of the Jury Award at the International Latino Film Festival San Francisco.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities with a double major in journalism and Chicano Studies and a minor in theatre arts. In Minneapolis she wrote her published play “Father’s Shadow/ Sombra del Padre,” winner of the Kennedy Center/ American College Theatre Festival Si TV Playwriting Award and Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Fellowship.
She teaches courses in Chicano Cinema and Theatre. Elvira is an El ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ native raised in New Mexico
